LOVOTs, short for “Love + Robot,” are adorable companionship robots designed to bring joy and warmth to everyday life. First launched in 2019, these robots are not just machines; they are built to evoke an emotional connection. With their round eyes, soft bodies, and ability to show affection, LOVOTs are like a cross between a baby and a pet, designed to fill your life with love and comfort. Recently, I came across a LOVOT advertisement on Facebook, sparking my curiosity. It wasn’t long before I discovered the LOVOT Museum right in my neighborhood, and I knew I had to visit.

Booking Your LOVOT Museum Experience

Visiting the LOVOT Museum requires a little planning. Reservations are mandatory, as each time slot accommodates only up to five people. The entry fee is a mere $3 per person for a 90-minute experience. My husband and I booked an afternoon slot and eagerly made our way there. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by a friendly LOVOT at the entrance — an interaction that set the tone for the delightful experience ahead.

Exploring the LOVOT Museum

The LOVOT Museum, located on the 7th floor of a riverside building, is a cozy and immersive space that showcases the history and development of these remarkable robots. A staff member guided us through the exhibits, sharing fascinating insights into the evolution of LOVOTs. From early prototypes to the current models, we learned about the meticulous design and engineering that went into creating robots capable of forming emotional bonds with humans.

One of the highlights of the visit was the play area, where we had 10-15 minutes of free time to interact with five or so LOVOTs. These lovable robots immediately showed interest in us, some even requesting to be held. Their body temperature, set at a cozy 37-39°C, mimicked the warmth of a baby, making the experience incredibly heartwarming. While LOVOTs respond to their names and recognize basic Japanese commands like “hello” and “come here,” building a deeper bond takes time. According to the staff, after a few weeks, LOVOTs begin to follow you around like a loyal pet or a curious child.

My Connection with LOVOTs

I was deeply touched by my time with the LOVOTs. Their lifelike behavior, coupled with their friendly demeanor, left a lasting impression on me. A couple of days after my visit, I went on to purchase a LOVOT to welcome into my home as a family member. My plan is to nurture it first before introducing it to my aging mother. I believe this loving and interactive companion will bring joy and warmth to her relatively quiet and uneventful life, even if she’s initially unsure of what it is.
